In summary, there are a total of eight (8) tests required as follows (T1 – T8):
T1 - Altitude Simulation– simulates air transport under
low-pressure conditions (approximately 50,000 ft).
T2 - Thermal Cycle– assesses cell and battery seal integrity and
is well as internal electrical connections; test is conducted using rapid and extreme
temperature changes.
T3 - Vibration – simulates vibration during transport.
T4 - Shock – simulates possible mechanical shocks during transport.
T5 - External Short Circuit – simulates conditions of an
external short circuit to the battery.
T6 - Impact – simulates an object impacting the a cells exterior
casing.
T7 - Overcharge – evaluates the ability of a rechargeable
battery to withstand an abnormally high charging current condition.
T8 - Forced Discharge – evaluates the ability of a primary
(non-rechargeable) or rechargeable cell to withstand a forced "maximum"
discharge current condition.
