Tensile testing involves applying a force in tension or compression to a test article, for the purpose of determining the energy absorbing characteristics of the material and/or its failure modes.

During the test, force and displacement measurements are recorded, and can later be used for computer modeling/analysis of the product's stress/strain characteristics.
